This so-called race is in my opinion, a Phantasm, that only exists in people’s mind and I would wager that this Phantasm chiefly exists, it seems in India- which is looking at China with a mixture of envy and jealousy.
So, if China were at all worried, like Hippomenes, that India would overtake them in this “race” that they are not worried about, then they will like Hippomenes toss some thorny crab apples* to distract the nattering classes in India.
Well for starters, “Vishwa Parihasa ” must run at a ‘faster’ pace than “Dung Po Pew ”.
Never understood what it meant, but now in the winter of my years, I now realize what that means. 😁
Again, in any urban setting in India, the Malls are an eco-system as good as any experience in China.

So what I’m suggesting is that rather than constantly comparing and tearing one’s clothes in agony, employ what the Japanese call “Nemawashi” and Poka Yoke
Look at each individual Eco-system within your immediate environs, that works in your land, in your local Area and if you are not discomfited, then all is fine. “Experience” is the key here.
China did that and still does that too. And I can’t understand complaints by the US and Russians here.
